Sahara A place inside this: Barbar
Babar is a municipality in Khenchela Province, northeastern Algeria. It is located in the Nemencha Mountains, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the town of Khenchela. The population of Babar is about 15,000 people, the majority of whom are Berbers.
The name "Babar" is Amazigh (the Hamitic language of the Berbers), meaning the Lion's Gate, from Bab 'Gate' (=Arabic) and Ar 'Lion'. It is the opening to the Berberian lion's Atlas range territory, to Sheshar (Chechar) and Seiar (Seïar).

The town has a number of historical sites, including the ruins of a Roman fort and a mosque dating back to the 11th century. Babar is also home to a number of Berber villages, where traditional Berber culture is still preserved.
The economy of Babar is based on agriculture and livestock. The town is also a popular tourist destination, due to its beautiful scenery and its rich history and culture
